Make Money with Old Junk

By

If you want to earn money online, consider eBay.  eBay is one of the most well known Internet companies, and certainly the most powerful auction website.  It is powerful and well known because it works, and provides a fantastic opportunity for the users to earn cash online.  The basic concept is that a seller lists an item for sale, with options to control the price in various ways.  A buyer places a bid for the item.  If the buyer is the highest bidder at the end, then they typically win the auction.  Each item for sale is seen by thousands of potential buyers each day, making the probability of a sale very likely.

Now, how can you make money from this?  Pretty easily: sell your old stuff on eBay.  Most people have a large amount of unwanted and unused items lying around the house, basement or storage area.  Regardless of the item, there might be someone out there who would pay something for it.  You might need to clean things up a little to slightly refurbish them, but the effort is minimal for most things.  If you want to start selling on eBay to earn extra money, take a look at the steps below for some guidance.

Setting up your eBay Account

Step 1:  Set up your eBay account.  This might seem a little complicated, but trust me, it isn’t.  First thing you should do is go to www.ebay.com.  At the top you will see a highlighted link that says “register.”  Click on this link, and follow the steps to register.  It will not take you very long, but you will need to have a credit card to put on file.  If you are concerned about the security of having your credit card on file with eBay, don’t be.  They are incredibly secure, and will ensure that nothing happens with your credit card without your approval.  After you have registered, you are ready for step 2.

Finding What to Sell

Step 2:  Find stuff to sell.  This step is relatively easy to do, but you want to keep a few things in mind.  It is pretty easy because most people have some thing lying around that they don’t want anymore.  The saying “one person’s junk is another person’s treasure” applies here perfectly, and is typically very true.  When you are searching for things to sell, be conscience about the condition of your items.  It is imperative that you are completely truthful about the items you are selling, and if an item is in bad condition then it would not be advisable to sell it.  Some items seem in bad condition because they are dirty, and you might be able to clean it up to make it acceptable.  Most items will need some cleaning to bring back their original luster, so dedicate some time to cleaning each of your items you will be selling.

Pictures are Key to Success

Step 3: You could just list an explanation of your item, but if you really want to get a good price for it, then you need pictures.  You don’t have to be a professional photographer to shoot good pictures.  Make sure you have plenty of light.  The more natural light from windows you can get, the better your pictures will look.  Also, make sure the background color is uniform and contrasts the item.  For example, if you have a stereo that is black that you want to sell, don’t take a picture of it on your patterned bed quilt.  Instead, throw a white sheet over the bed so the color is solid and uniform, and then take a picture of the stereo on the white sheet

Selling and Getting Paid

Step 4: List your item, sell and get paid.  Follow the selling tool that eBay provides.  It makes it pretty easy to list your item.  After you sell, you want to get paid.  You will want to use PayPal, a company affiliated with eBay.  It provides an entirely secure method of paying and being paid online.  You register with a bank account (savings or checking) that you use.  You can set up to have all items you sold on eBay paid for through PayPal.  You can then withdraw the money from PayPal to your bank account for free.

Those are the basics of selling on eBay to earn money online.  This method is not going to make you rich by selling a few old items you have lying around.  What it will do is give you some quick cash for something you might have thrown out.  Look for more information about selling on eBay to come, including a way to make a decent income on the side.
